Weather and climate of Finland

Humid continental-, subarctic- and tundra climate

In Finland the climates are divided to humid continental-, subarctic- and tundra climates according to their properties. At the continent the temperatures vary a bit because of the balancing effect. In spring time the sea warms up slowly, but it ties warmth during the summer time. During the autumn and winter time the sea releases slowly energy. This is why the mild summer and the mild winter is so typical to this climate. In addition, it rains a lot at the coast line, because of the humidity. When the warm and humid air arrives above the territory, it raises at the same time. Then the humidity condenses into rain drops.

At the continent large territories warm up rapidly in the spring and also cools down rapidly in autumn. This is why the differences between the temperatures can be so wide. In the area of humid continental climate the summers are warm and the winters are cold. The subarctic climate has features from both humid continental and tundra climate.
