The genesis of the Finnic external local cases

We have developed together with my colleague Jussi Ylikoski a new explanation of the emergence of the external local cases (or the so-called l-cases) in the Finnic languages. Our plan is to publish these results in monograph format in the future. At present, a briefer paper which presents the main outlines of our theory is available in North Saami:
