Some rare or declining Finnish bird species are: - Falco peregrinus (peregrine falcon, muuttohaukka) - Haliaeetus albicilla (white-tailed eagle, merikotka - Aguila chrysaetos (golden eagle, maakotka) - Pandion haliaetus (osprey, kalasääksi) - Cygnus cygnus (whooper swan, laulujoutsen) This is mainly due to the natural habitats reducing in area in Finland. Pollution of air and waters are an important cause of reduction in species numbers. Illegal killing of birds in some areas has caused near- extinction of some species.
