Deer Ked Research Consortium

The deer ked (Lipoptena cervi, Hippoboscidae) is a harmful ectoparasite on moose and other deer animals. It is locally very abundant on moose and may cause notable inconvenience also for humans.

The consortium consists of scientists from several universities and research institutes. The project aims to understand various aspects of the deer ked ecology, dispersal and its effect on host animals including human beings.

1st Nordic Workshop "Biology, applied importance and current research on the deer ked" was held in Joensuu, Finland, 26-27 November 2007.

2nd Nordic Workshop was held in Helsinki, Finland, 8-9 January 2009.

3rd Nordic Deer Ked Research Meeting was held in Oslo, Norway, 9-10 March 2010.
