The Places -project
rests on humanistic orientation towards Northern and
environmental questions. We represent a group of
different disciplines -education, sociology,
geography, multicultural education, and gender
studies. We aim to give voice to Northern people and
to understand their lives in the middle of
globalisation and localisation.
The focus of the
project is on the experiences of how people feel and
make sense of the changing social and physical
environment. The purpose of our research project is
to produce new konwledge of Northern peoples'
experienced health and wellbeing, of their hopes and
expectations for the future, and of the environmental
awareness and sense of place.
We have adopted a
narrative-biographical approach, which offers a wide
repertoire of methodological tools for listening to
various voices of people about places, past, present
and future.
