Oulanka Research Station is responsible for regional
activities of the University Oulu in the Northeast
Finland. Cooperation between University of Oulu and
Kuusamo town is based in a framework agreement that is
implemented as a part of
Naturpolis Kuusamo
development programme.
The head of the station is responsibe for the focus area
of nature and nature resources of this programme. The
aim of applied research is to offer scientific research
results for the regional planning, decision-making and
sustainable development.

The
station represents the whole univeristy at its region of
influence, and serves as a link between the region and the
university. Research conducted at the station has raised
the knowledge on the environment and the nature values of
the region influencing thus positibely to Kuusamo town´s
image as a nature town. Also the godschool work with local
schools enhances biological knowledge and environmentally
friendly way of living.
