Fig. 1.    The figure on the right is from eclogitized melagabbro or peridotite from Vaulo at the southwestern marginal zone of the Lapland granulite belt. The original rock was composed of olivine and orthopyroxene as cumulus phases and plagioclase as intercumulus phase. During the eclogite-facies metamorphism all of the plagioclase disappeared by reaction with olivine to form orthopyroxene and pargasite rims and pargasite-spinel-clinopyroxene symplectites around olivine.
