European bilingualism network

(The visualization takes a few seconds to load into the browser)

The language network of 39,446 bilingual European Twitter users is represented at right. Nodes represent languages, node sizes the number of users, edges the connection between languages, and edge width the exposure (proportion of bilingual users of language i who also use language j). Green edges indicate that users of the languages are more likely than average to use the language pair, while red edges show the opposite. Edge thickness represents the proportion of users of the source language who use the target language (direction shown by arrows).

Use the mouse wheel to zoom in or out. Drag nodes to rearrange the network in order to better access a particular node. Click on a node to highlight that language's connections, and hover over nodes and edges for more information.
