Space weather monitoring above Nordkalotten: hopes for the future

Sodankylä Geophysical Observatory, Sodankylä, Finland

We will outline the importance of the Nordkalotten region as the European Eye for Observing and Researching Earth's space environment (EEYORE). With the advent of EISCAT 3D, European and International scientists will have a unique opportunity to monitor space processes in the auroral zone. We emphasise the importance of EISCAT 3D as a monitoring tool for space weather applications as well as for long-term monitoring of our space environment as the key instrument in a comprehensive network of measurements across the European Arctic.
