  • SPM - Statistical Parametric Mapping
    Statistical Parametric Mapping refers to the construction and assessment of spatially extended statistical process used to test hypotheses about [neuro]imaging data from SPECT/PET & fMRI. Shareware. UNIX (with ANSII C compiler and MatLab 4.2c). Very good for FMRI.

  • V - software package. V is a general-purpose software system for magnetic resonance imaging and spectral reconstruction, processing, and analysis. Public domain.
  • The OSIRIS Imaging Software
    The University Hospital of Geneva´s OSIRIS free software is formedical image manipulation and analysis. Macintosh, PC/Windows and UNIX. Online user Manual for OSIRIS (Papyrus-file, PACS).
  • GAMMA General Approach to Magnetic resonance Mathematical Analysis. GAMMA is a computer package designed to facilitate construction of programs that simulate magnetic resonance phenomena. Unix Macintosh PC DOS/Windows PC Linux.
  • Dr Razz is a 16 bit free medical image display and analysis program for Macintosh computers. The program attempts to automatically open CT and MRI images and it can probably automatically open many CT/MRI DICOM images if they are not compressed.
  • NIH Image (NIH Image is a public domain image processing and analysis program for the Macintosh.)
    • BrainImage is a modified version of NIH Image for processing and analysis of brain images, particularly MRI (Free).
  • SciAn is a scientific visualization and animation program for Silicon Graphics and IBM RISC/Sytem 6000 workstations. Free. Supercomputer Computations Research Institute at Florida State University. SciAn is primarily intended to do 3-D visualizations of data.
  • Pencil is a visualization package for NMR and MRI experiments.
  • DICOMBMP runs under Windows 3.1 or later. It should handle any DICOM image and convert it to a standard Windows bitmap thus converting from 12-16 bit to 8 bit data.
  • MicroVision II for visualising point-sampled data volumes produced by 3D scanning devices such as MRI, PET, CT and confocal microscopes. Evaluation version.
  • CoMIR Software
    • SIMTAG - SIMulation of TAGging. Interactive computer simulation of tagged magnetic resonance images. (Silicon Graphics Indy and Indigo).

Commercial MRI-programs and consumers

  • AVS - commercial package from Advanced Visual Systems. Unix workstations.
  • IRIS Explorer, offers a number of solutions for manipulating and visualising 3D data such as MRI. UNIX and Windows NT version. Digital Alpha Windows NT version in beta test.
  • IDL Homepage widget called xdisplay which is good for analyzing multi-slice data sets of MRI AND CT.
  • The Mayo Biomedical Imaging Resource (BIR)
      • ANALYZE 3D biomedical image visualization and analysis. UNIX and in future Windows NT and Windows 95.
    • C_Images 3D is available for PCs under 32-bit DOS and Windows, and for UNIX on IBM RS6000's, Sun and Silicon Graphics workstations.
