BIOLOGICAL RESEARCH FACILITY

Biological Research facility is situated in Linnanmaa Campus next to Botanical Gardens . The Facility is an experimental- and research unit of the Department of Biology .

The unit provides aquariums, closures, cages and other facilities for experimental biological work. There are no animals which are kept in the Facility permanently, and the animals are kept strictly for research. Thus the Facility is not open for public.

Research in the Facility is concerned on invertebrate animals. At this moment there several hunderds crayfish in aquariums. In outdoor closures there are normally several reindeers, which are kept  for welfare and reproductive physiology research. However, at this moment there are no reindeers in the unit. The Facility is also maintaining four (no battery farm) inbred chicken lines. Chicken embryos produced are used for the research of The Department of Microbiology. There are also several quills and rock pigeons, which are kept for the needs of  physiological research and teaching.
