Our research work involves nonparametric estimation of functions, Bayesian methods, scale space methods, pattern recognition, information visualization and various applications to problems in science and engineering. The group was established in 2006 but it actually has a longer history as it can be viewed as a direct descendant of the Division of Mathematical Methods of Information Technology hosted by the Rolf Nevanlinna Institute at the University of Helsinki.
Current projects of the group include reconstruction of the paleoclimate, scale space analysis of images and signals, singular spectrum analysis, information visualization and 3D medical imaging.
Current and past members of the group include Lasse Holmström, Panu Erästö, Liisa Ilvonen, Kyösti Karttunen, Jussi Klemelä, Ilkka Launonen, Leena Ruha and Ville Vuollo .
