[About land uplift]

We reached the ferry just in time.

Back on mainland, our next destination was the bird observation tower at the Nature Center of Liminka at Liminka Bay. Leading to the tower, there was a path with information on landlift in the area.

[Shoreline 1917]

The shoreline has receded dramatically over time as the land has risen. This photo is from where the shoreline was in 1917.

[Shoreline 1949]

Similar sign for (also with Eila similarly explaining) the shoreline in 1949.

After some more walking, we reached the current shore, where a temporary-looking construction made out of wood was located: the bird observation tower.

The birds did not make themselves overly apparent, but some of us had brought binoculars and we were able to see a few of them. For a list of observed species, see appendix 2.

Did we really walk all that way? A view from the top of the tower.

[Clouds approaching]

We headed to the Nature Center, as the approaching clouds looked as if to carefully suggest that a large amount of water was about to relocate itself shortly.

We stopped to have coffee at the Nature Center, which had a café and a hotel for birdwatchers. Upstairs, there was a photo exhibition about the typical species in the area, the effects of landlift, and other information.

  [Nature Center of Liminka]

The Nature Center had a collection of decorative wooden birds, complete with the... chain hawk?

On the right: coffee break.

After our stop at the Nature Center, it was time to head back to Oulu and continue the course on Tuesday.
