Xenon is an excellent inert probe in NMR and MRI studies, because the chemical shift of 129Xe is extremely sensitive to its local environment and the NMR sensitivity of Xe can be increased by four to five orders of magnitude by spin exchange optical pumping (SEOP) hyperpolarization method.
We develop xenon NMR methods for the investigation of properties of ionic liquids, liquid crystals, porous materials and supramolecular assemblies relevant in molecular sensor applications, as well as imaging flow through materials. Experimental investigations are accompanied by state-of-the-art quantum chemical modelling.
